As a stay-at-home mom I've been the one who gets most meals on the table, kids hanging all over. It really is the worst when you've been trying to come up with dinner ideas all day, and it's 5pm and nothing. We ate taco soup on repeat while my husband was in dental school - we had no income, big future loans, and goals to cut costs.
I realized you could save a ton of money on food when you planned ahead. I started getting a bigger list of go-to meals and worked on shopping smart: only going every two-weeks. I loved seeing the rewards every month as we saved money, started storing pantry food that would work for meals we loved, and enjoyed less stress at 5pm.
I'm still not perfect at it, and there are definitely weeks we just fly by the seat of our pants. But it's during those moments I realize how much I hate dinner stress and how much meal planning every two-weeks really works.
With 4 kids and life getting busier, I will cling to the solution that's worked for us for years!
